A Flood of a Different Kind

We have been living this past week and probably for days to come with the physical devastation and emotional tribulations of a flood created by the winds of Mother Nature. But with this flood, we are borne witness to another type of flood created by the forces of Human Nature.  It is a flood of Human Spirit flowing with Kindness.

The Human Spirit of the survivors have been bolstered by the outpouring of Human Spirit from our fellow human beings who have reach out in their kindness, their empathy, their compassion and their deep concern for the victims of this catastrophic event…even at the risk to their own lives.

It has been stated via the newsmedia that many see these acts as a demonstration of what America represents…..but it’s so much deeper than that. It goes to the core of who we are as human beings.  It addresses our innate desire to take each other’s hands in a time of personal need.

From Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman philosopher- “Not for ourselves alone are we born”!  And so, when we see our fellow travelers on this journey we all share, display their true essence of purpose, we must recognize, praise and acknowledge their efforts and compassion as they offer their outstretched hands to others.

Kindness may be portrayed with an outreached hand, with thoughts and prayers, with donations of clothes, food, supplies or with a contribution of financial aid.  Indeed, if your heart and mind guide you, then be a giver and allow your flood of the Human Spirit to flow to those who are suffering and who are in need.

“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.”
