Mindfulness and Mental Health

We need to “serve notice” to friends (and others) that through sharing their internal struggles with friends and/or professionals, they can transcend their emotional suffering. Sharing our joys are easy. Sharing our challenges-not so much.

We must let our friends know that when they feel overwhelmed by anxiety, anger, stress, self-doubt, constant worry, depression, in a rut, etc., it’s okay to reach out for support, suggestions, and perspectives from others so that we may contribute to their emotional (and even physical) well-being.

With a FB platform, there is no need for anyone to feel alone or abandoned. Suffering in life, in one form or another, is inevitable; however, we can always choose to take action to ease our pain. There is no shame in asking for help from a friend or a professional. In fact, the very act of “reaching out for help” is courage at its’ finest and wisdom at its’ best.

We can help reduce the epidemic and stigma of mental illness just by letting our friends know we are here for them!

And to those of you reading this, please know that self-help may also be a path to relieving mental anguish. Mindfulness is a unique tool to help you understand how such a practice has helped thousands of individuals meet and solve their personal challenges. Self-observation and awareness, a desire to change and giving yourself as little as 20 minutes a day, can contribute to your finding a happier and more rewarding path in life.  Change is within your grasp. Just reach out for it!

“Emotional pain is not something that should be hidden away and never spoken about. There is truth in your pain, there is growth in your pain, but only if it’s first brought out into the open.” — Steven Aitchison, Author & Coach
